Part 2 of our discussion of the fallout of protests surrounding the death of George Floyd and others. There have been ripples felt across the world, with similar protests happening across Europe. The effects have even been felt in Sudan and across the Middle East. This is especially poignant because of the death of Sudanese-American Yassin Mohamed at the hands of sheriff’s deputies in Central Georgia. We’ll discuss the background of racism that has lead people to ignore these events and much more. #BlackLivesMatter

With the country seething and roiled with protests against police brutality towards black and brown people, I wanted to put down some of my thoughts. That’s mostly about the state of the protests, and the white folks I’ve observed participating. While their hearts are mostly in the right place, there’s a patina of white privilege that colors the protests and their behavior during those protests. Give it a listen and let me know what you all think.

S2.5 E1: What Sucks Today: June 3rd Massacre Anniversary

As the hiatus goes longer and longer, there are too many things to leave till our schedules align. So we’ll be posting mini-episodes we are referring to as “What Sucks Today”. Hopefully, you’ll like them, even if the subject matter is not something that brings joy.

Today is the first anniversary of the 29th of Ramadan massacre in Khartoum, when the Military Transitional Council stepped aside and allowed the RSF (Janjaweed) to sweep into the sit in protest with guns and fire, leaving hundreds dead. We had a full episode about it, but I wanted to commemorate the day with a short comment. This is especially relevant against the background of the protests currently taking place in the United States sparked by yet another murder of an unarmed black man, George Floyd, in Minneapolis, MN.

Mental health is one of the biggest issues facing the world today, and this episode we will discuss mental health, the taboos around it, and its effect on us specifically.
